Stride was a capable but short-lived Slack competitor from Atlassian that was ultimately discontinued in favor of a strategic partnership with Slack itself.
A discontinued team communication platform by Atlassian that offered group chat, video conferencing, and collaboration tools.
Stride was Atlassian's team communication and collaboration tool, launched in 2017 as a successor to HipChat. It was designed to be an all-in-one solution, combining persistent group chat, direct messaging, voice and video conferencing, and file sharing into a single application. Key features included 'Actions' and 'Decisions,' which allowed teams to mark items in a conversation for follow-up, and a 'Focus Mode' to minimize distractions. Targeted at businesses of all sizes, Stride was built to integrate deeply with Atlassian's popular suite of developer and project management tools, including Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket, positioning it as a direct competitor to Slack. However, the product struggled to gain significant traction. In July 2018, Atlassian announced it was discontinuing Stride and forming a strategic partnership with Slack, migrating all Stride customers to the Slack platform.
Software development, IT, and business teams, particularly those already using the Atlassian ecosystem.
